World’s Fairs
|
Starting with the London Exhibition of 1851, periodically held, to the present days, in different parts of the world, very large public exhibitions named as World’s Fairs, World Fairs, World Exhibitions, Universal Expositions, Universal Fairs, etc. aimed to celebrate Progress as a perceptible development of Arts, Knowledge, Industries and Institutions — the advance of Science, Technology and Culture, along with the improvement of Society — in several different countries.
Assuming, in 1851 — and for the first time in History —, a worldwide approach to our Planet and to Mankind, Universal Expositions also promote such a cosmopolitan attitude. among the vast public that visit them, and strongly influenced the development of several aspects of modern life and society, namely international relations and trade.
